The Story of the Straight Line
In June 2025, the first track from Nynke's new album OAK was released: 'The Story of the Straight Line'. A musical fairy tale about our Western belief in progress, which in addition to the audio track, is also available as an exclusive print edition. A specially designed leporello (harmonica booklet) with a humorous one-line drawing by Else Boekema.
About OAK
‘OAK by Nynke Laverman: an overwhelming experience.'
She sings phenomenally and touches you, because she sings with all her heart, and takes you with dedication on what can best be described as a spiritual presiding. A true experience.’ (Heaven)
OAK is a musical trip, a magical journey through the realm of the soul. Singer and language artist Nynke Laverman draws you into wondrous worlds with her enchanting voice, where trees, animals and stones tell their story. Can we still understand them? From the comforting realization that there is no way we can nót be connected to nature, Nynke evokes a mystical world in which she makes room for remembering that deep, unbreakable connection.
Through songs, spoken word and storytelling, she weaves an ingenious musical landscape with the mesmerizing cadence of an ancient ritual together with sound artist Sytze Pruiksma. With emotional bird sounds, surrealistic video art and a voice that is grand in its softness, they let us feel in a stormy world that everything we are looking for is actually already there.
OAK premiered at the Oerol Festival in June 2025 and toured along the Dutch theatres in 2026. The album OAK is available on CD and green (environmentally friendly) vinyl.
